About Us

Green’s Basketball Academy was created to give the youth in the area the opportunity to improve upon their skills in the game of Basketball, as well as learning life lessons, strengthening community relationships, and having the most FUN while doing so.

Our Head Coach Marshall James Green III, known by some as Jamie, has lived in the Hampstead area for 30+ years, and simply fell in love with the game of Basketball, at a very young age. Marshall participated in the North Carroll Rec Council rec/travel leagues as a youth, played Varsity Basketball for North Carroll High, and has been coaching/refereeing for the rec council which he has done for almost the last 20 years. Inspired by the legendary Rec Council Coach Marshall Jr, his dad, Marshall knew he wanted to give back by making a positive impact on the lives of the youth in our community, the way his dad did for so many others in his generation. So, if Basketball is happening in the Hampstead area it is safe to say you have probably seen a Marshall Green around. Other than his family nothing brings him more Joy than sharing his love and passion for the game of basketball with others.

“Some of my fondest memories from childhood were meeting up with friends at a local Basketball Court and playing ball until the lights came on. It was then I really improved my skills as it was something I did almost every day. I just remember the rec games back then being much more competitive because of the extra time my peers and I spent on the court. The matchups and trash talk during the school week were epic. You could really feel the community support. People came out to games even if they didn’t have a child participating just because our peers knew the competitiveness was going to be there. Saturday Basketball was a big deal around here and I am looking forward to bringing that community support back. That starts with the youth working on and improving their game. I understand times have changed and kids aren’t meeting up at the local court as much as they used to, but the love for the game is there. Some kids just need a little push or some type of structured environment to really put in the time necessary to get better. That is what we are hoping to provide here at Green’s Basketball Academy”.

One of the many things we love about basketball, is the life lessons that can be learned through playing the game. Lessons like how to work with others to achieve one goal, how to deal with adversity, rejection, or defeat, how to be accountable for your mistakes, how to deal with mistakes made by another person, and countless more.

Doesn’t matter what your current skill level is, if you plan on playing competitively or just for recreation. If you love to play, love to compete, or just having fun with your peers then Green’s Basketball Academy is for you. So go ahead, GIVE US YOUR BEST SHOT!

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
